If You Thought the Wine Witch was bad...

(I wrote this post after receiving a few nasty comments on my video blog. I am re-posting it here, because I think our sober space is awesome, it keeps me sane, and I consider you all friends)

If you thought the Wine Witch was bad....

......then you should meet up with a few Trolls.....
I started writing a sober blog on Day Three after I had quit Booze for good. At the time I had no idea that it would be for good, I just knew that I was afraid for my health and my marriage and terrified that I couldn't seem to escape the clutches of the Wine Witch.
I both loved and hated wine.

I was relieved everyday that I managed not to drink, and I mourned the loss of my beloved wine, like the passing of friend.
I was then, and at times, I still am, vulnerable and sensitive about my "problem" and the stigma that surrounds addiction, and let's be brutally clear here, my mental health issue.
So why write a blog?

In the beginning, I wrote for my own accountability. I needed a new routine. As Wine O'clock struck, I fled into the office and began to write. Some days the posts were really personal, some days I did a little research around the topic of alcohol, and dependency.
I also read Sober Blogs. I found a whole on-line sober world, of brave, funny, inspiring people, some of whom were literally fighting for their lives.
Not very long after I had started to write my blogs, I got some comments. Just short ones, like "Good for you, made it to Day Ten!", and "Great Post, keep it up" .  I began to get regular comments, people started to follow me, and before I knew it I had a circle of friends. People just like me.........read on here

  1. Morning, lovely Jackie! I'm so sorry about the trolls, and so proud of you for not letting them burst your bubble. Isn't if funny how bad manners often go hand in hand with bad spelling and bad grammar? Worse than adultery, as Mr SM would say ;-). Big hugs to you, oh strong, wise and gorgeous one. May they rot in their fetid burrows.

  2. Don't let the asses get you down. Just take a deep breath and remember: they will most likely spend their next life as a dung beetle. :)

  4. It always makes me sad to see how mean people can be. I know it is their fear and inadequacy, but it is so sad.
You are doing a brave and amazing thing.

  9. Hello WB, I spent last night and a couple of hours this morning reading all 107 of your posts and am astounded to learn that anyone could be anything other than complementary about your blog. I for one have really enjoyed and benefitted from reading through your posts. Your write in an amusing and engaging style whist still managing to instil insight and inspiration. Thank you for this.
I followed the link to your video blog and have only watched your latest so far which I enjoyed. The first thought I had upon seeing you was that you had such lovely skin and eyes. I am one of those people who has always worn makeup albeit as subtly as possible, and I always admire people like you who have a naturally smooth and healthy complexion and look fab without the need to waste time at the bathroom mirror each morning. I look forward to following your video blog and it's great to put a face to this blog.
Love all that you have accomplished and again thank you for being an inspiration to those of us who need all the inspiration we can get.

  10. The online support for people trying to improve their lives is invaluable. I could not have stopped drinking without the help of your blog (and a few others). To know there are people out there who completely understand you is amazing. I choose to remain anonymous but think you putting yourself out there is so brave and I really enjoy the videos so a big thank you for them! And well done for standing up to those (more than slightly thick) bullies. Bad manners is worse than adultery!!! LOL LOL LOL xxx
